Problems We Solve

Common Garbage Compactor Repair Issues

Our certified technicians have seen it all. If your appliance is showing any of these symptoms, don’t wait — call us today.

Refrigerator-icon

Compactor Won't Turn On

If the unit is completely unresponsive, the issue is often a failed start switch, blown fuse, faulty key switch, or a wiring problem in the control system.
Dishwasher-icon

Ram Not Moving Up or Down

A stuck ram usually indicates a broken drive gear, worn drive nut, faulty directional switch, or a burned-out drive motor.
Range-icon

Loud Grinding or Straining Noise

Grinding sounds during operation typically mean the drive mechanism — gear rack, pinion, or motor — is worn or has debris interfering with movement.

Ram Gets Stuck Mid-Cycle

A ram that stops partway through and won’t reverse is often caused by a faulty reversing switch, limit switch, or a jammed drawer caused by overpacking.
Dishwasher-icon

Control Panel Not Responding

Unresponsive buttons or a blank display point to a failed control board, membrane switch failure, or a loose wiring harness connection.
Range-icon

Key Switch Won't Engage

Many compactors have a key lock for safety. A worn key switch cylinder or faulty electrical switch will prevent the unit from operating at all.

Drawer Not Latching or Sliding

A drawer that won’t close fully, latch securely, or slide smoothly can prevent operation and is often a mechanical alignment or latch spring issue.

Odor Even After Cleaning

Persistent smells can come from cracks in the ram, deteriorated deodorizer disc, or buildup in hard-to-reach internal surfaces — we clean and restore.

How much does a garbage compactor repair cost?

Our pricing is straightforward and fully transparent:

$159 Minimum Repair Charge per appliance ($199 on military bases)
Parts and any additional labor are extra and will be fully itemized in your estimate before any work begins.

$89 Estimate-Only Charge per appliance ($129 on military bases)
This applies only if you choose not to proceed with repairs. Discounts do not apply to this charge.

10% Military Discount applies to labor charges for active-duty and retired military. Discount does not apply to rental properties.

What warranty comes with a repair?

Every repair includes a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. If the same issue returns within 90 days due to the repair or parts, we come back at no charge. A lifetime warranty on parts is also available for an additional charge — ask when we provide your estimate. Warranties do not apply to rental properties.

What if I get an estimate but decide not to repair?

If you choose not to proceed after our technician diagnoses the problem, the estimate-only fee of $89 per appliance ($129 on military bases) applies. Discounts do not apply to this charge. If you do move forward with the repair, only the repair charge applies.

How soon can you come out?

We strive to schedule service as quickly as possible — often same-day or next-day depending on availability. Call or text Nikki at (719) 494-1588 and she’ll get you on the calendar fast.

My compactor won't turn on — what should I check?

First verify the key switch is in the On position and the drawer is fully closed — most compactors won’t start unless both conditions are met. If those check out, it’s likely a blown fuse, failed start switch, or directional switch issue.

The compactor motor runs but nothing compacts — why?

No — most appliance repair companies skip compactors entirely. It’s one of our specialties. Phil has repaired compactors for over 40 years.

We serve all metro Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Black Forest, Monument, Palmer Lake to County Line Road, and east to Peyton Highway. If you’re unsure whether you’re in our service area, just call and we’ll confirm.
